Note-4 : A number of tests may be done to confirm the diagnosis of prostate cancer. Prostate cancer is most often discovered by physical examination or by screening blood tests, such as the PSA (prostate specific antigen) test.

Note-5 :  PSA  test may be high, although non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate can also increase PSA levels. Free PSA may help tell the difference between benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer.

•  Urinanlysis may show blood in the urine.
•  Urine or prostatic fluid cytology may reveal unusual cells.

The rectum  (back passage) is close to the prostate gland, so your doctor can yourself feel for any abnormalities in the prostate by inserting a gloved finger into the rectum. This may be uncomfortable but should not be painful.
If cancer is present in the prostate gland it may feel  hard  and knobbly. Whereas BPH it is usually normal.

ultrasound scans use sound waves to build up a pictre of part of the inside of the body.To scan the prostate gland.,a small probe is passed into the back passes and an image of the prostate appears on a screen. This type of scan is used to measure the size and density of the prostate.
